If You're In the Neighborhood Tomorrow

You might like to check out the "el Tambor Llama" conference and concert at Hostos College, starting at 1:00 PM, with the keynote by the beyond extra-fine Robert Farris Thompson, through to an evening music show that Vaquero will emcee. This makes for a good companion to the current New Yorker Magazine roundtable on Haitian music and culture conducted by Sasha Frere-Jones, the second installment of which goes up soon.

And tonight Vaquero plays in the retrospective of Rhys Chattham's "Guitar Trio" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 6 PM. This event goes with the exhibition that opened Monday night of "Pictures Generation."

All day long in the lobby there will be an exhibition of artwork related to these traditions by José Orbein, Kesler Pierre, and Osvaldo Sánchez, as wellas books for sale.
