LINES OF THE DAY

". . . But the past does not exist independently from the present. Indeed, the past is only past because there is a present, just as I can point to something over there only because I am here. But nothing is inherently over there or here. In that sense, the past has no content. The past -- or more accurately, pastness -- is a position. Thus, in no way can we identify the past as past." p. 15

". . . But we may want to keep in mind that deeds and words are not as distinguishable as often we presume. History does not belong only to its narrators, professional or amateur. While some of us debate what history is or was, others take it into their own hands." p. 153

New Orleans First Second Line Post the Election

This afternoon, thanks to our friend, Chris Dunn, who was there with his mighty camera.

Go here to see and hear.

Plus more!

In the video, the architecture looked liked like a movie set.

OT: RIP Miriam Makeba, Studs Terkel and Inca Princess Yma Sumac.

Not a movie set. I know those streets and the buildings.

Also RIP Tony Hillerman and Louis's life-long activist mom. Terkel, Tony and his mom didn't quite manage to see President- Elect Obama. All three of them would have been overjoyed.

Love the video. Thanks for posting it. (Are you feeling better?!)

Premium T -- Thank you for asking; I am feeling better. Still a long way back up to the top. But I spent all yesterday afternoon outside in the cold wind doing far too long neglected errands -- not to mention re-stocking the larder. Fell over afterwards.

So much to do, and so much is late, late, late!

Back to work.

Love, C.

I watch this video and find myself thinking (and not for the first time), "Why would anyone be conservative?" It can't be this much fun by a long shot!

And you have to take rest stops at the bars / restaurants along the route! And hang out with your friends! And listen to this great music! And dance!

I have no idea why anybody would want to do these things.
